Picture Book Review- The Tushy Book

"Life is comfy, you will find, when you have your own behind. Sitting down would NOT be cushy if you didn't have your tushy!" (The Tushy Book)

Amen to that! The Tushy Book by Fran Manushkin is a fun little rhyming picture book about, you guessed it, tushies! And it's pretty gosh darn funny!

I first read this book with family friends who are 7 and 9 years old. They were cracking up!

This children's book explores the many uses of a bum in an appropriately hilarious way. Mostly it just talks about the different things a person can do, with an emphasis on the tushy (ie: leaping, sleeping, sitting, spinning). It's a great book for teaching action words, potty training, or just for a little humor with the kiddos. And the pictures are adorable too!

"After crawling, you can nap. Your tushy fits on every lap."

I really enjoy getting a good chuckle when I'm reading books with my daughter. I think it's important to read picture books that you both can enjoy (since likely you will be reading a few favorite picture books over and over again). A funny picture book is a great way to get your whole family laughing together and having fun reading. Sometimes it's really hard to get kids to read and enjoy books, this was the case with those two elementary age family friends that I mentioned earlier. I read this book with them one of the very first times they came over to my house; they don't really enjoy reading because they are below reading level. Thankfully, this funny picture book got them out of their "reading comfort zone," and we laughed together and bonded over a book! Now we read together whenever they come over!

So get your tushy to the library (or the bookstore) and pick up a copy of The Tushy Book! It's such a fun book to read with kids!

  1. I was so pleased to see your happy review of my Tushy Book! It was fun to write, and I'm glad to know it helped a few children learn to like books and reading. This is the most gratifying thing a children's writer can feel. Yay for books!
